Announcement - July 5, 2017
The Department of State's International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP) hosted a group from Azerbaijan to the United States as part of a special program intended to support the efforts of the Baku International Sea Trade Port to become a regional hub serving growing domestic needs and boosting international trade in the region. During their visit to the United States, they came to Charleston as guests of the Charleston Council for International Visitors, a nonprofit organization which arranges all programming for IVLP groups in Charleston.
The Port of Baku is seeking assistance for developing its port operations, labor management system, and business development strategy. The group came to Charleston to gain insight that could be applied upon their return to Azerbaijan.
Safe Ports' CEO and President, Lucy Duncan, and Vice President, Michael Smallwood, invited the group to a Fourth of July celebration, sharing both an American tradition and Lowcountry hospitality to our visitors. Safe Ports applauds the efforts of this group in their mission to boost trade in Baku and looks forward to participating in the growth of this region.
